The Los Angeles Rams announced the signings of offensive lineman AJ Arcuri, wide receiver Quintez Cephus, inside linebacker Tony Fields II, cornerback A.J. Green, defensive tackle Jack Heflin, safety Tanner Ingle, cornerback Shaun Jolly, cornerback Cam Lampkin, inside linebacker Elias Neal, defensive tackle David Olajiga, wide receiver Drake Stoops, outside linebacker Keir Thomas and cornerback Charles Woods to reserve/future contracts.
A reserve/future contract allows teams to sign players who were not on the active roster at the end of the previous season to a deal for the following year. These players will participate in the offseason program and then report to training camp for an opportunity to earn a roster spot.
The Rams originally selected Arcuri in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft and he played in eight games that year while making one start at left tackle. The 27-year-old appeared in two games this past season and also saw time on special teams.
Cephus is another notable name as he was selected by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He played in 22 games from 2020-2022, catching 37 passes for 568 yards and four touchdowns.
Fields was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He totaled 88 tackles, one pass defensed and a fumble recovery touchdown in 45 games (10 starts) from 2021-2024.
Green was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Browns in 2020 and recorded 40 tackles, seven passes defensed and two interceptions over parts of four seasons (34 games).
Heflin has accumulated two tackles in parts of three seasons for the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants and New Orleans Saints (six games).
Jolly appeared in six games for the Rams from 2022-2023, but did not get into a game this past season. He has received all of his snaps on special teams at the NFL level.
Lampkin played in four games with the Rams during the 2024 season, receiving 31 snaps on special teams. Neal also exclusively played on special teams for L.A. this past season, seeing 77 snaps in six games.
Thomas has appeared in 17 games with the Rams over the last three seasons, including one in 2024 when he made a start at outside linebacker. He has recorded 13 tackles in his NFL career.
Woods played in 12 games with the Rams during the 2024 season, receiving 169 snaps on special teams and notching two tackles.
Ingle, Olajiga and Stoops have not appeared in an NFL game to this point in their respective careers.
Why Rams are signing players to reserve/future contracts
NFL rosters expand from 53 players to 90 in the offseason, which allows teams like the Rams to take fliers on prospects and give them a chance to make a name for themselves during workouts.
