Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey has not been shy about putting on his recruiting hat this offseason.
The two-time All-Pro kickstarted his efforts with former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones. Now that Jones has been traded to the Tennessee Titans, Ramsey has now turned his attention toward New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
Gilmore has made headlines with his decision to not report to the Patriots’ mandatory minicamp in his push for a new deal. It is safe to say that the situation has not gone unnoticed by Ramsey.
The Rams’ star took to Twitter once again to entice Gilmore on what a move to L.A. did for Dodgers’ star Mookie Betts following his departure from Boston:
Yo @BumpNrunGilm0re what’s good my dawg?

@mookiebetts got traded from Boston to LA & won a ring! That was nice. What you think @BumpNrunGilm0re

Betts found himself in a similar situation prior to the 2020 campaign when a looming payday led to uncertainty with the Red Sox. He was eventually traded to the Dodgers and signed a 12-year, $365 million extension before helping to end the World Series drought in his first year with the team.
Gilmore’s decision to skip minicamp is part of his push for a new deal as he enters the final year of his current contract. Should the Patriots decide against it, the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year could very well be traded before the 2021 season.
There is no question that pairing Gilmore with Ramsey would form arguably the most talented corner duo in NFL history. Unfortunately, it is still rather far-fetched given the team’s current cap situation.
Gilmore wants to get paid and L.A. does not have the resources to make it come to fruition after already restructuring a number of deals this offseason. While it is encouraging to see Ramsey doing his part to bring in some more star power, he may not want to get his hopes up too high for this one.
