Wade Phillips On Aaron Donald’s Return: ‘What A Time To Be Alive’

The Los Angeles Rams are heading into their Week 2 matchup against the Washington Redskins with plenty of confidence after defeating the Indianapolis Colts, 46-9. Sean McVay has clearly made his imprint on the team’s offense and is now tasked with trying to stop his former team from scoring when the two sides meet.

The Redskins pose a different challenge on the offensive side of the ball with Kirk Cousins leading a dangerous passing attack that features Terrelle Pryor and Jordan Reed. Los Angeles defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will surely have his hands full trying to figure out a way to slow down Washington’s high-octane offense.

Fortunately for the Rams, star defensive tackle Aaron Donald recently ended his holdout and is expected to play against the Redskins. According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, Phillips expressed his excitement to have Donald back:

Los Angeles’ defense was nothing short of spectacular in their opener against Indianapolis as they consistently pressured backup quarterback Scott Tolzien, forcing errant throws and a pair of interceptions that were returned for touchdowns. With Donald soon making his debut, Washington’s offensive line will have their work cut out trying to contain the three-time Pro Bowler.

While it is still unclear how many defensive snaps Donald will play, it will be worth seeing how he performs in Phillips’ 3-4 scheme. However, the 26-year-old’s defensive prowess should still shine in his 2017 NFL debut and it will not be surprising to see him force several quarterback pressures. Rams fans should be in for a treat when Donald finally hits the field.
