After seven years with the Green Bay Packers, veteran wide receiver Greg Jennings made the bold decision to sign with the division rival Minnesota Vikings as a free agent.
Although Jennings’ decision came with a lot of backlash, the veteran wideout claims that it was simply time to move on via ESPN.com:
Greg Jennings said in an interview with ESPN’s “First Take” on Tuesday that he left the Green Bay Packers for the Minnesota Vikings because “it was time” and said he has much confidence in his new quarterback, Christian Ponder.
“You just know when it’s time to move on,” Jennings, who spent seven seasons with the Packers, said. “In the biblical sense, seven years is the year of completion. Eight years is new beginnings.”
The writing seemed to be on the wall from quite some time that Jennings would be headed elsewhere. Jennings landing with the Miami Dolphins appeared to be the most likely destination until Mike Wallace agreed to terms leaving Minnesota as the best candidate.
With Jennings in the fold in Minnesota, the Vikings have become more of a dynamic offense. The offense was built around superstar running back Adrian Peterson with wideout Percy Harvin becoming a force downfield, but now Jennings will takeover in that roll and will possibly make the team that much better as a result.
Last season, Jennings only played in eight games for the Packers while only starting in five of those games. Jennings was bothered by a groin injury that kept him sidelined.
Although considered one of the best wideouts in the game, Jennings has become more and more injury prone leading the Packers to believe it was time to part ways. With James Jones, Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb ready to shoulder the load and fill the void left by Jennings, the team had no problem letting him leave via free agency.
