Ty Simpson has quickly gravitated to Matthew Stafford as he prepares for his rookie season with the Los Angeles Rams.
The veteran quarterback has taken Simpson under his wing, helping him get adjusted to the NFL and answering any questions that come his way.
Simpson praised Stafford for being so open to mentoring him and said he has learned more from the 38-year-old than he did in his four college seasons.
“It’s the same thing I did in college, except it’s a different level,” Simpson told Taylor Lewan of “Bussin’ With The Boys.” “I’ve learned more ball in the last four months of being with him than I had in four years of being in college. He’s just so, like, cerebral. Just understands and he’s so smart with everything. It’s so cool. I appreciate him so much because he’s been nothing but nice to me.”
When the Rams first drafted Simpson with the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, there was some thought that Stafford wouldn’t like the idea of them drafting his successor.
However, the reigning NFL MVP has enjoyed getting to know Simpson and being somewhat of a father figure to him as he gets accustomed to a brand new league.
Stafford hasn’t indicated when he plans to hang up his cleats, but he is doing his part to help Simpson develop and hopefully step in as the Rams’ franchise quarterback for years to come.
Davante Adams mentoring Rams rookie CJ Daniels
Another Rams rookie in CJ Daniels has benefited from some of the Rams’ veteran leadership. Earlier this offseason, he asked Adams for advice on how he can improve as a wide receiver.
Adams is one of the best wide receivers of his generation, so Daniels definitely approached the right player for advice. The 33-year-old has been impressed with how Daniels is heeding his advice in training camp.
Daniels is looking to carve out a role on the Rams offense and could potentially get reps as the team’s No. 3 wide receiver behind Puka Nacua and Adams this year.
Daniels, who was taken in the sixth round of this year’s NFL Draft, is a sure-handed wideout who had the lowest drop rate and second-highest contested catch rate over the past two NCAA seasons.
The 24-year-old has already made a strong impression in training camp and seems determined to be an impact player for the Rams this season.
