The Los Angeles Rams found their quarterback of the future when they selected Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The University of Alabama product likely won’t see much of the field next season, but he nevertheless finds himself in a great situation getting to learn from reigning NFL MVP Award winner Matthew Stafford and Rams head coach Sean McVay.
Simpson praised the Rams for being so welcoming to him and is looking forward to spending time with some of the best offensive minds in football, via Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated:
“It’s great. Just sitting there in the room with Matthew [Stafford], it’s super, super fun. It’s awesome. He’s just an A-plus guy, A-plus player. I think the tape shows that, and then being there with Sean [McVay] and all my teammates, it’s really, really cool. Not only do I fully believe that we have the best team, but I fully believe that we have the best people as well. It’s not just about football. It’s about how people treat you and there hasn’t been a guy in that locker room who I haven’t had a good experience with. I’m really looking forward to getting to know them better and building good relationships and having fun experiences.”
Simpson has wasted no time getting acclimated to his new team as he recently participated in quarterback drills with Stafford and Stetson Bennett.
The 23-year-old has also been studying wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams to get a better idea of how they operate and what makes them so dominant at their position.
Simpson has only been with the Rams for a month, but his commitment to improve in all areas is already drawing praise from several members of the organization.
Ty Simpson ‘didn’t care’ about criticism over Rams drafting him
The Rams’ decision to draft Simpson drew plenty of criticism as many wanted to see them take a player who could’ve improved their chances of winning Super Bowl LXI as opposed to looking ahead to the future.
Simpson has heard the outside noise and is focused on proving his doubters wrong.
“I really didn’t care, to be honest with you. Everybody can have an opinion, but it’s my job to take care of my business. So, the Rams took me with the 13th overall pick, so now it’s my job to be the best player I can be, the best Ty I can be, and go out there and prove them right. I don’t really listen to all that. My job is to make sure to do whatever my team needs me to do to win and that’s what I’m going to do.”
