The Los Angeles Rams made a tough decision this past Monday, as they decided to part ways with head coach Jeff Fisher after the team clinched another losing season this past Sunday, which will be the fifth in the five seasons Fisher coached the Rams.

The firing came at an interesting time, as it was announced that he signed a two-year extension just weeks ago.

Additionally, it came when the Rams had a short week ahead of them as they travel to take of the division rival Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.

While the firing of Fisher was justified due to the lack of success in his tenure, after practice Tuesday running back Todd Gurley said that it has been tough on a lot of the players on the team. “It was tough on a lot of guys,” Gurley said. “Coach Fisher, he did a great job, he brought everybody in, we loved him as a coach. A lot of other people didn’t but at the end of the day we knew what he did for us. He brought us in, he’s the one who drafted me when nobody else believed in me, so it definitely hit us hard, for sure.”

After Sunday’s 42-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons Gurley verbalized his frustrations with the offense for the first time, comparing them to a ‘middle school offense’. Gurley does not think his words had to do with Fisher’s firing though, as his intention was to get him and his teammates to perform better. “I didn’t really look at it that way. Didn’t care, was just speaking my mind and speaking the truth about how we looked.”

“It definitely should be taken to heart. The way we played, just way too many turnovers, way too many penalties. We just cant be doing that.”

At 4-9, the Rams once again will not be making the postseason this year. Special teams coordinator John Fassel will take over as the interim head coach for the remaining three games in the season.
