The Los Angeles Rams playoff hopes suffered yet another devastating blow in their abysmal 45-6 loss against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12.
There were high hopes that the Rams would be able to keep the run game going behind running back Todd Gurley following his stellar performance versus the Chicago Bears the week before. Unfortunately, that was hardly the case after he ran for just 22 yards on six carries against Baltimore.
The Rams could not get much of anything going on offense against the hounding Ravens defense and were essentially shut out on primetime television. Regardless, it seems Gurley is not looking to sulk in the loss at this point in the 2019 NFL season
Gurley is admittedly hoping the Thanksgiving holiday will help his teammates move past the embarrassing loss and look ahead to the Arizona Cardinals, via Gary Klein of the L.A. Times:
“We just got to get ready for Arizona,” said running back Todd Gurley. “Thank God it’s Thanksgiving, so hopefully we forget about this loss by Thursday.”
It is undoubtedly encouraging to see that Gurley is not trying to let the sting of their embarrassing loss linger around for too long. After all, Los Angeles does not really have the luxury of taking time to bounce back if they hope to somehow keep their playoffs hope alive.
The 2019 campaign has been a rough one for Gurley after experiencing a tremendous dip in his workload this season. As a result, there is now plenty of speculation regarding whether or not he will ever be able to return to elite form.
Even if Gurley was 100 percent healthy, it is still far-fetched to assume that he would have put up the same numbers considering how lackluster the offense has been all year. Not only were they replaced by the Ravens as the most explosive group in the league but they are barely even a shell of the high-scoring unit they once were under head coach Sean McVay.
It is difficult to tell whether it is the result of head coach McVay’s approach becoming predictable or the struggles along the offensive line that is to blame for such a significant drop-off. Regardless, the Rams will need to figure out a way to get back on track before all the investments they made on offense eventually start to weigh them down.
Fortunately, a favorable matchup against a porous Cardinals defense could be just what they need to find their footing.
