Todd Gurley: ‘I Feel Like I Was Trying To Do Too Much’

With only 47 yards on 17 carries in the Los Angeles Rams’ season opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Todd Gurley was a bit of a disappointment. Not that everything can be put on his shoulders, but he certainly expects more of himself.

Things don’t get any easier for Gurley as he and the Rams host the Seattle Seahawks and their daunting defense in the home opener this Sunday. Gurley has guaranteed a win this Sunday, but he will have to be much better than he was last week in order to make good on that promise.

Gurley isn’t letting last week get him down, and told Gary Klein of the LA Times that he felt he was doing too much last week:

“Just stay with it, be patient,” he said Thursday. “I felt like some of the runs got busted up a little early. I feel like I was trying to do too much, or wasn’t patient enough in my reads.

“I’ve just got to stick to the game plan, and just know that everything is going to be fine, and we’re going to break one.”

There are a number of reasons why Gurley struggled last week. Some can be attributed to himself, some to the offense as a whole, and some to the 49ers defense. The important thing is that the Rams figure out those issues and fix them before Sunday.

The Rams have proven that they can run on the Seahawks in the past and if Gurley can get that going, the Rams will fare much better than they did last week.
