The Houston Texans had to be excited about their performance in Week 1 of the NFL season. The defense was dominant as the team cruised to a 17-6 victory over the Washington Redskins.

Unfortunately, the was one dark spot as the top overall pick last year, Jadeveon Clowney, hurt his knee and the Texans fear it could be a meniscus tear. After the game, head coach Bill O’Brien didn’t have a lot of information according to ESPN:

We’re consulting with doctors and trainers right now. I’m not sure about the status, but I will say right now that they think it’s a good prognosis, so it looks like he’s going to be OK. He may miss some time, he may not. Who knows? We’ll know better as the week goes on.

Clowney didn’t get to play much before he went out of the game, but he did have one tackle for loss before heading to the locker room.

With J.J. Watt showing why he is the highest-paid defender of all-time, the opportunity is there for Clowney to make some big plays for this defense, but now he may miss some serious time.

Clowney will meet with doctors Monday to determine the exact severity of the injury and whether or not he will need arthroscopic surgery.
