The Los Angeles Rams’ first pick of the 2025 NFL Draft came in the second round when they selected Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson at No. 46 overall.
Tight end was a need for the Rams as Tyler Higbee enters the final year of his contract, and Ferguson expressed his excitement to join the team.
“Man, it’s such a blessing,” he said after being drafted. “I’m super excited and couldn’t ask for a better opportunity than God has put in my hands. I’m just super excited.”
As it turns out though, the Rams did not speak to Ferguson much during the pre-draft process which made it a bit of a surprising pick.
“I actually had a formal interview with just one person, not even everybody, during the Combine and that was about it,” Ferguson said. “Obviously, the Rams are a great organization, great offense, great people leading the organization. I’m super excited to be a part of that.”
Ferguson is Oregon’s all-time receptions and touchdown leader for tight ends though and discussed what he will bring to the Rams.
“I think I bring a lot of things, versatility being the biggest, being able to stretch the field and creating mismatches with linebackers or safeties but also being able to put my nose on somebody. The God-gifted ability, but also the versatility and ability to be able to line up anywhere and be able to make an impact however I need to.”
Being drafted is always special, and Ferguson got to enjoy it with his family in Colorado.
“I got the call. I’m back home at my house in Denver, Colorado with my family, just close family and some friends,” he said. “We just got to share that special moment of a dream coming true. I got the call and was super excited for the opportunity but also blessed to be able to look back and be grateful for the moment. Just everything that God has put in my hands… I’m just super excited and blessed.”
The real work begins now as the Rams have legit Super Bowl aspirations in 2025 and Ferguson could potentially play a big role in that.
Terrance Ferguson excited to play with Matthew Stafford
While Terrance Ferguson is just a rookie, he will have a veteran quarterback to work with in Matthew Stafford, which he is excited about.
“Having a guy like that who is a Super Bowl champion and one of the greats… my little brother is a die-hard Lions fan. He loves Matt(hew) Stafford and has loved him his whole life,” Ferguson said. “Being able to play with a guy like that who has a lot of experience, won a Super Bowl, is super detailed and is a super talent, I can’t wait to be able to catch passes from him.”
