One major change in the sport of football this offseason was the addition of flag football to the 2028 Olympics lineup in Los Angeles, and the agreement that NFL players will be given the opportunity to play. But with increased injury risk playing during the summer, all major NFL figures, like Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, are being asked for their opinion.

McVay has always been an extremely pro-player coach. It’s what has allowed him to keep star players happy over the years, even taking team-friendly contracts to help L.A. win. There has never really been bad words said about him by players.

So it stands to reason that he would be in support of his players wanting to play flag football at the Los Angeles Olympics in the summer of 2028.

“Yeah, I think it’s great,” McVay said. “I think that is so far away from me. Coaching years are dog years, you know that. You hear (Vikings WR) Justin Jefferson come out and talk about, man, that would be really cool. That’s awesome.

“Like I think you give guys the opportunity to say, ‘Alright, well what’s your preference on it?’ And I think whatever our guys are…there’s going to be the availability for maybe one guy on each team to be able to do that. And if that’s something that players say they want to be able to do, then I think it’s a really cool experience for them to be able to be a part of while also acknowledging that man, there are some other guys that have been doing it. I’m not going to pretend to understand the nuances tactically and what that game entails, but I think it’s good. I think it’s great.”

Not many NFL players will actually end up representing the United States in the 2028 Olympics, as it seems there will only be six men’s teams comprised of 10 players per team. But for those who do end up participating, it could be an extremely unique and exciting experience.

And McVay would never be one to take that kind of thing away from his players if that’s what they wanted. He also acknowledged that 2028 is years away, and given how he has already contemplated retirement, that could be a decision he won’t have to make.

Sean McVay gives update on Kyren Williams extension talks

With injuries decimating a number of the Los Angeles Rams’ skill position players, McVay had one consistent player to turn to for offensive production and that was running back Kyren Williams.

Williams was outstanding in his third season as he rushed for 1,299 yards while adding another 34 receptions and totaled 16 touchdowns overall. And now, after two consecutive excellent seasons, Williams is looking for a contract extension that will pay him what he is worth.

The Rams have been in discussions with Williams and his agent Drew Rosenhaus throughout the offseason and McVay believes there is good progress being made in the talks.
