After coming up just short in the NFC Championship Game, the biggest question surrounding the Los Angeles Rams was whether or not quarterback Matthew Stafford would return for his 18th NFL season. Stafford said he would take some time to figure out whether he wanted to continue playing and no one was sure which way he was leaning.

Thankfully, the Rams got their answer at the NFL Honors awards show as Stafford was named 2025 NFL MVP. And during his speech for the award, the 37-year-old revealed that he would indeed be coming back for another season in Los Angeles.

One person who is obviously excited is Sean McVay, who felt it was a special moment for Stafford to be able to announce that and believes that the Rams always have a chance with him under center, via Stu Jackson of theRams.com:

“It was good to be able to allow him to be able to announce that,” McVay told theRams.com. “Those were things that we knew was coming, but I thought it was really special for him to be able to deliver that news. Everything starts with Matthew, and when he’s at the switch, we’ve got a chance. It starts all over, and that’s why you got to love the grind. He loves everything that every day entails, and we’ll build it back up again. But you sure feel good with him running the show.”

Stafford obviously has plenty left in the tank as he showed during this MVP campaign, leading the NFL with 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns to just eight interceptions. He and the Rams were so close to returning to the Super Bowl for the second time and McVay will do everything in his power to maximize these years with Stafford at the helm as he is truly one of the best quarterbacks of his generation.

With McVay, Stafford and Puka Nacua, the Rams’ offense will likely be one of the best in the NFL again and the team will surely be considered one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl. Now, all eyes will shift to what the front office does to improve the roster this offseason to help the Rams get over the hump in 2026.

Rams GM Les Snead wants to make the most of time with Matthew Stafford

Rams general manager Les Snead also understands the importance of having Matthew Stafford around as he recently spoke about wanting to make the most of his time with the star quarterback remaining with the franchise.
