Amid the disastrous 4-12 finish during the 2016 NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams also had to deal with drama surrounding the organization. During one of their extensive losing streaks, Rams legend and Hall of fame running back Eric Dickerson was vocal about the team’s on-field performance.
It was then subsequently hinted by former head coach Jeff Fisher that Dickerson was not allowed to be around the team which led to his brief hiatus from the LA Coliseum. However, new head coach Sean McVay was sure not to make the same mistake and says he looks forward to having Dickerson around the team according to Rams:
“He’s a guy that will be around. You look at what he was able to accomplish as a player in his career – and I think what’s important is there are so many great players that were a part of this organization and you want those guys around,” McVay said.”You want winners around, they know what it looks like. Marshall Faulk, Kurt Warner, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce – D’Marco Farr is still present. I think being able to have those guys around, where your players can see. I have talked to Eric and he’s a guy that I’m looking forward to getting to know a little bit better, as well.”
Dickerson was not shy about expressing his displeasure with not only the team, but the coaching staff headed by Fisher. His announcement to stay away from the Coliseum until Fisher’s departure added to the public outcry that had already been calling for a new head coach.
The Hall of Famer has undoubtedly become a renewed fan favorite since the team’s return to Los Angeles. In many ways, Dickerson felt it was his duty to the fans to relay that frustration to the front office. Now that Los Angeles has cleaned house with a new coaching staff, fans are hoping there will be much more cohesion between the franchise and their former great players.
