After an eventful start to free agency, the Los Angeles Rams have officially assembled their new coaching staff under head coach Sean McVay for the 2022 NFL season.
For a second consecutive offseason, the Rams’ coaching staff experienced more turnover than usual as multiple coaches departed for promotions elsewhere. It led to several new hires, including Liam Coen, who replaces Kevin O’Connell as offensive coordinator.
Coen returns to L.A. after spending the 2021 season as the University of Kentucky’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In 2021, the Wildcats ranked fifth in scoring offense and eighth in total offense in the SEC.
Chris Beake is another newcomer as he takes over as the Rams’ inside linebackers coach after nine seasons with the Denver Broncos. Kenneth Black joins the team after spending the last two seasons as co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for Florida A&M.
Skyler Jones comes to L.A. as their new inside linebackers coach after spending seven seasons at the college level, most recently as the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for Norfolk State.
Greg Olson is back for his third stint with the Rams and will serve as senior offensive assistant. He spent the past four seasons as the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator.
Jake Peetz also joins the Rams as an offensive assistant after most recently serving as LSU’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, helping guide the Tigers to the No. 5 passing offense in the SEC in 2021.
Ra’Shaad Samples is the Rams’ new running backs coach after spending the last three seasons on SMU’s coaching staff. Jeremy Springer will serve as the team’s special teams assistant after spending the last four seasons as a special teams coordinator at the college level, most recently at Marshall in 2021.
Among the other familiar faces that will be taking on expanded roles include Thomas Brown (assistant head coach/tight ends coach), Thad Bogardus (outside linebackers coach), Jonathan Cooley (defensive backs coach), Zac Robinson (pass game coordinator/quarterbacks coach), Lance Schulters (defensive assistant) and Chris Shula (pass game coordinator/defensive backs coach).
Meanwhile, Raheem Morris (defensive coordinator), Joe DeCamillis (special teams coordinator), Kevin Carberry (offensive line coach), Eric Henderson (run game coordinator/defensive line coach), Nick Jones (offensive assistant), Zak Kromer (offensive assistant) and Eric Yarber (wide receivers coach) are returning to the same positions from last season.
