Week 6 provides a bit of a reprieve for Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay and the team as they’re on bye.

The Rams dropped their Week 5 matchup against the Green Bay Packers and now sit at 1-4.

With hopes of a playoff spot quickly dwindling, the bye week will offer McVay and the players a chance to reset and more importantly, get healthy.

McVay acknowledged that the bye came at a good time, though will be using the time off to evalute how the team can improve. “Yeah. I think that I will be able to better answer that based on the availability of guys and what that really means, but yes,” McVay said.

“What I think it does serve as a good time is after five games where we’re obviously not where we want to be, how can we look at ourselves critically? How can we identify some of the things that we need to do with the 12 games remaining to be able to play more quality football that’s more in alignment with what we’re capable of and what we’ve seen when we’re operating at our best here.”

When asked about his mindset during the bye week compared to last year, McVay broke down the differences between the two situations and reiterated he’s looking forward to some much-needed rest for the players.

“Well, I think we played consistently well. We did get some guys back from injury last year. There were nine games that we had played at that point as you know very well. There were some good experiences of… we had a lot more experiences. We had a lot more health just in general where we had a younger group. We knew we were going to be a much younger team, but we were able to work with the same group of guys with the exception of Cooper getting banged up and missed the first four games, but then he started to get back into the lineup, and then we missed Matthew for the second half of the Dallas game and for the Green Bay game going into the bye so getting him back was a big deal. There are some ‘comps’ and then there’s also some unique differences just based on the amount of injuries that we on that we took on throughout training camp and then within the first couple weeks of the season.

“Regardless, what we have to do is use this bye as an opportunity to get refreshed, rejuvenated, and we have to reassess what we can do as a coaching staff to make sure that we’re doing everything in our power to try to put these players in the best spots that they can be in to consistently try to play quality football. We’re going to urgently and intently work on that, continue to pour into this group, and I’m hopeful that we’ll see some improvement and good things ahead.”

McVay has earned the benefit of the doubt over the years, so expect the Rams to come out lookin much sharper in Week 7.
