For the second consecutive year, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has led his team to a strong December.
The Rams have cobbled together several important wins this month, with their most recent one coming against the San Francisco 49ers. It was a significant victory for Los Angeles as they moved into the No. 1 spot in the NFC West standings following the Seattle Seahawks’ loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Now, the Rams control their playoff destiny the rest of the way and will look to keep the momentum going in Week 16 against the New York Jets. While it’s good to be in the position they’re in now, McVay said it’s not changing his or the team’s approach. “It doesn’t change anything that we’ve talked about for the last handful of weeks,” McVay said.
“Unless the season ended today, it’s all just temporary. We have to continue to be one day at a time, one moment at a time, and one game at a time like what we’ve been. I think it’s a testament to the group to be able to handle some of the things that they’ve handled over the last few weeks, but all of it is not relevant unless we continue to do something about it. The only thing that we can do is have a great week of preparation against a very challenging opponent who we have tremendous respect for.”
Just a few weeks ago, Los Angeles was on the outside looking in as it pertained to the playoffs, but their recent surge has put them in prime position to qualify. However, like McVay mentioned, their standing is only temporary because the Arizona Cardinals, 49ers and Seahawks are all still alive in the division race and can overtake the top spot.
Los Angeles may be favored against New York this Sunday, but the NFL has shown that any team can win on a given week. There’s no room for the Rams to relax because there’s still work to do to cement their spot in the postseason.
Sean McVay says Rams are figuring out workload for Tyler Higbee
Tyler Higbee is set to make his 2024 season debut for the Rams this weekend against the Jets after rehabbing from the torn ACL and MCL he suffered in the playoffs.
Prior to the injury, Higbee was a reliable target for Matthew Stafford and a reliable blocker, though Sean McVay acknowledged that he and the team will need to figure out the veteran tight end’s workload.
