It’s not every day that impact players are released, so when the Seattle Seahawks parted ways with Bobby Wagner, the NFL was caught by surprise.

After an up-and-down season where they missed the playoffs, the Seahawks decided it was time to rebuild as they traded Russell Wilson. Wagner could have been a great locker room presence and mentor for Seattle, but the franchise decided it was time to part with one of their best players.

Fortunately, Wagner had his pick of teams to play for and he ended up coming back home to Southern California to help the Los Angeles Rams repeat as Super Bowl champions. So far, the linebacker has hit the ground running as his new teammates and coaches have been impressed with his leadership and presence both on and off the field.

Los Angeles has a knack for getting the most out of star players and Richard Sherman believes they got a steal in his former teammate, via his Twitter account:

Sherman and Wagner spent the bulk of their careers together in Seattle where they provided the backbone for one of the most dominant defensive units in the NFL. With Sherman covering the back and Wagner covering the middle of the field, the two were a force to be reckoned with and the Rams are hopeful the latter remains as dominant as he has been.

Los Angeles has not had an inside linebacker of Wagner’s caliber in a long time and so it will be interesting to see how they shape their defense to fit him in. Regardless, he will be a big-time contributor for them and it should hopefully lead to another deep playoff run.
