Recap: Jared Goff, Rams Offense Struggle Again In Loss To New England Patriots

Ahead of their Week 13 matchup with the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher received a two-year contract extension at it looks like he will remain the Rams head coach for at least the next couple of seasons.

The Rams struggled again on the field Sunday in Foxborough, as rookie quarterback Jared Goff and the offense once again could not get anything going and the Rams fell 26-10, dropping to 4-8 on the season.

New England’s offense struck first as running back LeGarrette Blount took a fourth-and-one carry 43 yards for a touchdown to give the Patriots an early 7-0 lead.

After an interception of Goff set the Patriots up with good field position early in the second quarter, Tom Brady capitalized by connecting with wide receiver Chris Hogan on a 14-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 14-0. They then added a 28-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski to make it a 17-0 lead just before halftime.

The Rams offense, which had just one first down in the entire first half, started their second drive of the third quarter with good field position at their own 45-yard line. A nice 17-yard catch by wide receiver Brian Quick put the Rams in field goal range. Their offense stalled from there so Greg Zuerlein connected on a 44-yard field goal to put Los Angeles on the board.

The defense of the Rams did a nice job of holding the Patriots high powered offense to field goals in the second half, as Gostkowski connected on three field goals and Brady and the offense was kept out of the end zone. The field goals resulted in the lead being extended to 26-3 though, as the game was put out of reach.

Goff got the Rams in the end zone late though, as he connected with Kenny Britt from a yard out with just over a minute left in the game making the final score 26-10.

The win was the 201st in Brady’s illustrious carrier, giving him the most victories of any quarterback all-time, passing Peyton Manning.

Brady finished the game with 269 yards passing and a touchdown while Goff completed just 14-of-32 passes for 161 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Los Angeles hosts the Atlanta Falcons (7-5) next Sunday at 1:25 p.m. Pacific time.
