The Los Angeles Rams announced that they have waived safety Blake Countess and signed linebacker Josh Carraway.

While Rams have decided to part ways with Blake Countess, it appears they have not ruled out the prospect of bringing him back this offseason at a cheaper pricetag.

The Rams managed to shore up some serious depth at the safety position through free agency and the 2019 NFL Draft, signing Eric Weddle and picking Washington safety Taylor Rapp in the second round.. As a result, Countess saw his value diminish in the eyes of the front office.

The Rams had reportedly already asked the 25-year-old to take a pay cut from his $2 million tender. It seems both sides were unable to come to an agreement, leading to Countess being waived.

Weddle is expected to be the clear-cut starter alongside John Johnson III while the team has indicated that rookies Rapp and Rick Scott will have an opportunity to etch out an integral role for themselves on defense.

Regardless, the fact that Los Angeles has expressed the possibility of bringing him back says a lot about what they think of his potential. Countess recorded 33 tackles along with two interceptions since switching over to safety full-time prior to the 2017 campaign and he also established himself as the team’s kick returner after fielding 17 kicks for 419 yards.

The Rams are doing what they can to try and shore up as much cap space as possible. Regardless, it will be interesting to see if they do ultimately end up bringing Countess back.

Carraway has spent time with both the Tennessee Titans and Washington Redskins organizations, mainly being on their practice squads.
