The Los Angeles Rams announced that they waived safety Jake Gervase, tight end Ethan Wolf, receiver Greg Dortch and center Nate Trewyn ahead of the start of training camp.

The organization has until Aug. 16 to cut their roster down to 80 players, so it looks like they are getting a head start before players even report.

Gervase originally signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa last offseason. He was cut at the end of training camp last year and brought back as a member of the practice squad, eventually being promoted to the Rams’ active roster on Oct. 19. He made his NFL debut the following day in a win against the Atlanta Falcons and in two games for the Rams, played in 13 snaps on defense and 25 on special teams.

Wolf also signed as an undrafted free agent in 2019 coming out of Tennessee and spent the season on the practice squad. He signed a reserve/futures contract with the Rams after last season although after the team drafted Brycen Hopkins in the fourth round, his future with the organization was no more.

Dortch went undrafted in 2019 out of Wake Forest and has made his way around the league a little bit, spending time in the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers organizations before signing to the Rams’ practice squad last December.

Trewyn has a similar story as these other players after going undrafted in 2019 out of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Before signing to the Rams’ practice squad last November, he spent a short amount of time on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ active roster.

The Rams still have a handful of more cuts to make, which won’t be easy since they haven’t had any offseason workouts to evaluate their players.
