The Los Angeles Rams have been one of the hottest teams in the NFL and now control their playoff destiny as they are currently in first place in the NFC West.
The Rams are coming off two impressive victories against the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers, but now must leave California for a road matchup against the New York Jets in Week 16.
Unlike Los Angeles, New York has struggled to put together wins and are simply looking for some positive momentum to bring into the offseason. The Jets roster is stacked with talent on both sides of the football field, but have not been able to put it all together.
Regardless, the Rams can’t afford to take their opponent for granted as they’ve got to win to keep the rest of the division from overtaking them in the standings.
Rams Offense vs. Jets Defense
Los Angeles’ passing game has been featuring Puka Nacua since he returned from injury, though head coach Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford will need to find ways to get Cooper Kupp more involved after he was held without a catch against San Francisco.
The passing and run game does get a boost as Tyler Higbee is expected to be active for the first time this season, though his snap count will likely be limited. Attacking the Jets secondary will be difficult as players like Sauce Gardner can hold their own in coverage. The better bet is running the football against a softer New York defensive line, so Kyren Williams and even Blake Corum should be in line for more touches.
Rams Defense vs. Jets Offense
Aaron Rodgers has looked better in recent weeks and a lot of that has to do with his connection with Davante Adams, who went off in Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Not only does Rodgers have Adams as a safety valve, but Garrett Wilson is another threat on the outside.
Cobie Durant should return to the fold after missing last week, but he and Darious Williams will have their hands full with New York’s star pass catchers. There’s also Breece Hall who should be the featured back despite dealing with a knee injury.
Rams Keys to Victory
1. Get Cooper Kupp involved in the passing game
Kupp operates as the No. 2 receiver behind Nacua nowadays, but he is still a key piece of the offense that needs touches. Getting him involved early and often should spring Nacua and the rest of the passing game.
2. Slow down the Jets’ star receiver tandem
Adams and Wilson are capable of scoring on any given play, so finding ways to slow them down will go a long way in preventing the Jets from winning.
