The Los Angeles Rams aren’t expected to contend for the 2023 season after parting ways with several veterans in the offseason, though they can rest a little bit knowing that Sean McVay is returning as their head coach.
After such a disappointing 2022 campaign that resulted in McVay suffering his worst season since coming to L.A., it felt like he was finally due for a break. McVay has led the Rams to two Super Bowl appearances and other playoff appearances, and for any head coach that is a lot of hours and work that would burn out anyone.
The city of Los Angeles is certainly thankful to McVay for leading the team to a Super Bowl, but he has also made his alma mater Miami (Ohio) proud as well. McVay was honored with a statue the college and it was unveiled this past Saturday, via Jack Schmelzinger of The Miami Student:

McVay joins Paul Brown, Weeb Ewbank, Woody Hayes, Ara Parseghian and Bo Schembechler in Miami’s “Cradle of Coaches.” The statues can all be seen outside of the Redhawks’ football stadium.
During his playing days at Miami, McVay was a receiver that recorded 39 catches for 312 yards. While his collegiate resume isn’t anything to write home about, his offensive acumen and leadership ability has translated well to the NFL and is often regarded as one of the best coaches in the league.
It’s a heartwarming and full-circle moment for McVay, but now he faces perhaps his most difficult challenge as he tries to build up the Rams program from the ground up. While he’s got pillars on both ends of the field in Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald the roster is full of young and inexperienced players who’ll need game reps to develop properly.
2023 might be a rough year for McVay and the Rams but knowing the organization and how aggressive they are, they shouldn’t be down for long.

Los Angeles had to have breathed a sigh of relief when McVay committed to coaching the team in 2023 and beyond. The rumors of him finally retiring seemed real for the first time, but despite the circumstances, the Rams did right by McVay as they gave him space and time to make a decision that made the most sense for him and his family.
