Rams Video: Michael Brockers Welcomed Back After Deal With Ravens Falls Through

The Los Angeles Rams have a lot of work to do ahead of the 2020 NFL season as they are still in the process of filling out their roster.

There has already been a major overhaul on the sidelines as Sean McVay has revamped his coaching staff and that in turn will likely result in the front office scouring the free agency pool and 2020 NFL Draft for players who fit the mold of what those coaches are looking for.

The defensive side of the field is another area of concern as the Rams have lost several key contributors from the 2019 NFL season in Cory Littleton, Clay Matthews, and Dante Fowler Jr., among others. Michael Brockers also briefly left after agreeing to terms with the Baltimore Ravens.

However, Baltimore never officially signed Brockers which allowed the defensive lineman to return to Los Angeles on a three-year contract. The team was more than happy to welcome him back, posting a highlight video of his via the Rams’ official Twitter:

It seems that the Ravens were spooked about an ankle injury that Brockers suffered back in December and his physical results were enough for them to pull the offer from the table. The Rams were quick to lock him up on a deal, reportedly agreeing with Brockers on a three-year contract worth $30 million.

Brockers is a fan favorite for the Rams as he has been with the team since 2012 and holds a lot of sentimental value as he was Les Snead’s first pick as general manager. The 29-year-old had a productive 2019 season with 63 combined tackles, three sacks, and one pass break up.

However, his most valuable skill is his ability to stop the run as his size allows him to effectively close gaps and limit opposing running backs. In an offseason full of change for the Rams, it was good for them to retain Brockers. Not only does it keep the defensive line mainly intact, but it also gives Aaron Donald a reliable partner lined up next to him.
