The Los Angeles Rams have a lot of question marks heading into the offseason and the biggest one by far surrounds quarterback Matthew Stafford.
The Rams and Stafford have had a successful partnership to this point, but whether that continues in 2025 and beyond remains to be seen. The 37-year-old wants to keep playing but doesn’t have any guaranteed money left on his Rams contract, so a new deal is necessary.
To this point, contract negotiations between Stafford and the Rams have not progressed. It seems that both sides are motivated to get something done, but there is always the possibility that they can’t come to an agreement and decide to go their separate ways.
As the NFL offseason gets underway, Adam Schefter of ESPN broke down the Rams’ situation with Stafford and how if they decide to trade him, it could impact another veteran quarterback in Aaron Rodgers:

Bringing back Stafford should be the Rams’ top priority. He is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league and the Rams have a young roster that is ready to compete now. They were a couple of plays from reaching the NFC Championship Game this past season and gave the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles the most trouble during their playoff run.
If things don’t work out with Stafford though, then it seems that Rodgers has a good chance of being L.A.’s bridge quarterback. It remains to be seen what type of draft compensation the Rams would get for Stafford but as things currently stand, they won’t be picking until the end of the first round.
Not only will the Rams likely not have access to the best quarterbacks in the 2025 draft, but even if they did, it’s a pretty underwhelming class of signal-callers.
For a team that is looking to compete right away, a veteran like Rodgers would make sense until Sean McVay can find his next quarterback of the future. Rodgers has had interest in joining the Rams and McVay in the past, and if Stafford is not back in 2025, it could finally come to fruition.
Matthew Stafford likely to return to Rams
According to recent reports, the expectation is that Matthew Stafford will likely return to the Rams this offseason, which would make all of the talk surrounding Aaron Rodgers moot.
