In what turned out to be a back-and-forth game, the Los Angeles Rams narrowly lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 30-29.
The Rams defense got off to a strong start as they managed to force a fumble and recovered the ball. However, the Seahawks’ defense managed to stall out the Rams and forced a field goal attempt, which Greg Zuerlein converted.
After another strong defensive stand, the Rams featured Todd Gurley on their next drive. They managed to drive all the up into Seattle territory before once again being forced to kick a field goal. Down 6-0, Wilson then went to work as he found Will Dissly for a 38-yard strike. Now in the red zone, the Seattle signal-caller managed to miraculously find Tyler Lockett in the corner of the end zone, putting them up 7-6.
The Rams then turned to Goff who once again struggled to get much going in the passing game. A couple of three-and-outs gave the ball right back to the Seahawks where Wilson scrambled to find Lockett once again for a 17-yard strike. Wilson then connected with D.K. Metcalf for a 40-yard touchdown bomb, putting Seattle up 14-6.
Goff then got into a rhythm as he found all his receivers for chunk gains. However, the drive ended prematurely as Gurley fumbled the ball, giving the Seahawks yet another possession.
Carson then rumbled down the field on three straight carries, moving the chains in the process. After another nice find by Wilson to Dissly, Seattle continued to kill the clock on the ground. Facing a fourth-and-one in the red zone, the Seahawks tried to draw the Rams offsides to no avail and even caught a break as Jason Myers missed the 48-yard field goal attempt.
With less than two minutes to go, Goff quickly marched the Rams up the field as he managed to find Woods, Gerald Everett, and Cooper Kupp on several nice throws. Facing a third-and-10 in the red zone, the Seahawks were called for a roughing the passer penalty that the Rams eventually cashed in on as Goff found Kupp in the endzone.
Only down 14-13 to start the second half, Goff found Everett for 30 yards in the middle. The Cal product then found Tyler Higbee for a couple of passes that ultimately got them into scoring position where Gurley managed to run it in for eight yards, putting them back up 20-14.
After a good kickoff return from Lockett, Seattle found themselves at midfield before a Clay Matthews sack helped end the drive. Starting all the way at their own endzone, the Rams were unable to advance the ball. With good field position, the Seahawks advanced the ball all the way up to the goal line where Wilson found David Moore for a touchdown, putting Seattle back up 21-20.
The Rams finally managed to get Brandin Cooks involved as he ran it for 27 yards along the right side. After some big plays from the tight ends, Gurley ran it in for the second time, but a failed two-point conversation put the Rams up 26-21.
On their next drive, Seattle took advantage of a couple of penalties that put them right back in the endzone to start the fourth quarter. However, the Seahawks were called for a holding penalty that forced a forced goal which resulted in a slim 26-24 lead for the Rams.
Continuing some of their momentum, Goff found Cooks streaking down the side and the receiver made the impressive grab for 29 yards. However, Cooks was injured on the play and walked back to the locker room to get evaluated for a concussion.
After another huge completion to Kupp, Goff threw what looked to be a touchdown to Woods but was ruled incomplete. Head coach Sean McVay challenged the call but upon review it was withheld, forcing the Rams to settle for another Zuerlein field goal that pushed the score to 29-24.
However, Wilson and the Seahawks managed to control the game clock by continually moving the chains by running the ball. On fourth-and-one, Wilson managed to find Carson for a short pass in the endzone that put the Seahawks up 30-29.
Goff and the Rams had a little over two minutes to respond but the drive ended in disaster as a dropped pass from Everett resulted in a Seahawks interception. However, the defense came up with a huge stop, giving Los Angeles one more shot.
After a huge strike to Everett to get them into field goal position, Zuerlein pushed the ball slightly right and the Seahawks managed to escape with the victory.
