Rams Trade Greg Robinson To Lions For 2018 Sixth Round Pick

The Los Angeles Rams had one of the worst offensive lines in the league for the 2016-17 NFL season. Even more frustrating, the Rams had spent a bevy of draft picks on the line over the years that still have yet to pan out.

None of which have been more disappointing than the former second overall pick of 2014 NFL Draft, Greg Robinson. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Los Angeles has traded Robinson to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a future sixth round draft pick:

The news certainly comes as no surprise after Robinson struggled through yet another season. Despite his raw athleticism, Robinson has been one of the most penalized and least productive left tackles in the NFL over the last three seasons. He was even benched prior to their Week 12 matchup against his hometown New Orleans Saints.

Although Los Angeles was able to acquire a sixth round draft pick in 2018, they also managed to clear up just over $3 million in cap space. The move also solidifies Jamon Brown as the team’s right tackle after he was able to impress his new coaches throughout offseason training activities.

While it is still early, the Rams offensive line is pretty much locked in with the offseason additions of Andrew Whitworth and John Sullivan. Both Jared Goff and Todd Gurley struggled heavily behind a pedestrian offensive line last season. If Los Angeles is able to avoid another year of poor offensive production, they will need to see vast improvement at the line of scrimmage.
