The Los Angeles Rams announced on Thursday morning that they have signed tight end Tyler Higbee to a four-year contract extension, locking up another piece of their young core.
Higbee was a fourth-round pick for the Rams in 2016 out of Western Kentucky, meaning he was in the same draft class as quarterback Jared Goff, who just signed a four-year record-breaking extension as well on Tuesday.
In three seasons with the team, Higbee has caught 60 passes for 672 yards with four touchdowns. He splits time with Gerald Everett, who is known to be a better receiver than him. Higbee is the team’s starter at tight end though largely due to his blocking ability.
Higbee caught 24 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns in 2018, playing an essential part in a Rams offense that ranked second in the league in points per game and made it all the way to the Super Bowl. He caught four passes, including a touchdown in the NFC Championship Game.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Higbee’s four-year extension will be for just over $31 million, which makes him a top-10 paid tight end in the league:

The Rams front office has worked in silence locking up most of the team’s young core, which now includes Higbee, Goff, Todd Gurley, Brandin Cooks and Aaron Donald. General manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay have also received contract extensions in the last year.
It is clear that the Rams are building something special in Los Angeles, and a lot of the current roster will be around for a while longer to hopefully see it come to fruition.
