The Los Angeles Rams, like the rest of the NFL, are gearing up for training camp to begin next month but in the meantime have been evaluating their rookie prospects.
During the 2023 NFL Draft, the Rams made a somewhat surprising move by trading up into the fourth round to select Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett. The backup quarterback position left much to be desired in 2022 as both John Wolford and Bryce Perkins struggled in their starts after Matthew Stafford was shut down for the year.
Bennett brings a championship pedigree to Los Angeles as he helped lead the Bulldogs to back-to-back college championships and now is in prime position to backup Stafford. While he doesn’t possess the biggest arm or size, Bennett has proven he can hang against top-level talent and his toughness and mobility should serve him well at the professional level.
After a couple of months with the team, Bennett and the Rams have finally agreed on terms for his rookie contract, via Field Yates of ESPN:

With Bennett under contract, Los Angeles has now signed nine of the 14 players of their draft class. The Rams recently came to agreements with Puka Nacua, Davis Allen, Nick Hampton and Warren McClendon Jr., leaving Byron Young, Kobie Turner, Tre’Vius Tomlinson, Ochaun Mathis and Zach Evans as the remaining unsigned rookies.
Given that L.A. traded up to grab Bennett, it’s probably safe to assume that the No. 2 quarterback spot is his barring a dismal training camp and preseason. Bennett should get the bulk of the signal caller snaps during their preseason slate as Sean McVay has famously held out his starters until Week 1 of the new season.
For now, it’s good to see the Rams making headway signing their draft picks and it should only be a matter of time until everyone’s under contract.
Stetson Bennett excited to learn from Rams organization
Entering the offseason, Stafford was the only quarterback on the roster so taking a swing on someone like Bennett made sense for the Rams. The Georgia product has already been hard at work his new team trying to carve out a role, and so far the early returns have been promising.
Aside from the on-field production, Bennett has shown a level of maturity that must’ve appealed to the team during the draft process as he said he’s coming into the organization ready to learn everything he possibly can.
