The Los Angeles Rams signed tight end McCallan Castles and also waived tight end Anthony Torres with an injury designation after hurting his ankle in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

Castles joins the Rams less than a week after he was waived by the Los Angeles Chargers. He originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee in 2024.

Castles gives the Rams another tight end for the preseason but is a long shot to make the team’s initial 53-man roster. He is currently behind Tyler Higbee, Terrance Ferguson, Colby Parkinson and Davis Allen on the depth chart.

As for Torres, he is facing an extended absence and will now go on waivers. If the 25-year-old isn’t claimed, he will likely be placed on injured reserve by the Rams.

Torres signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Toledo after a six-year college career in which he caught 74 passes for 1,069 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Rams having joint practice with Saints

After their joint practice with the Chargers was canceled due to injuries, the Rams will now have one with the New Orleans Saints on Thursday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.

The Rams previously had a joint practice with the Cowboys and wanted to get one more in before they continue their preseason schedule.

Joint practices are beneficial because they give players valuable reps in a game-like environment, especially for those who don’t suit up during the preseason. L.A. is one of the teams that doesn’t play starters at all in the preseason, making those joint practices that much more valuable.

The Saints will soon head back south for a preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 17, so the Rams have to be thrilled that things worked out and the teams can practice together.

After their joint practice this week, the Rams and Saints will next meet at SoFi Stadium on Nov. 2 as part of the NFL Week 9 schedule.
