The Los Angeles Rams announced that they have signed linebacker Jachai Polite to their practice squad to replace Dakota Allen, who signed with the Oakland Raiders.
Allen was a seventh-round draft pick of the Rams in 2019 but was among the final roster cuts. The Rams were able to keep him on their practice squad, although that did not last long with the Raiders offering him a 53-man roster spot.
Polite has been highly talked about this year as he was a third-round draft pick by the New York Jets out of Florida. He surprisingly did not make their roster despite signing a four-year contract though and he eventually wound up on the Seattle Seahawks practice squad.
The Seahawks waived Polite last week, paving the way for him to join the Rams practice squad in what is a low-risk, high-reward type of signing.
In three seasons at Florida, Polite had 78 total tackles, including 28.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks. His junior season was sensational as he had 45 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks to go along with six forced fumbles in 13 games.
Working with Wade Phillips, Clay Matthews and Dante Fowler Jr., who also went to Florida, may have been the best thing that could happen to Polite in his young career. Hopefully, he takes advantage of it and is making an impact on the active roster sometime this season.
