The Los Angeles Rams announced that they have signed cornerback Troy Hill to a two-year extension that puts him under contract through the 2020 season.
Hill had previously signed his one-year tender as a restricted free agent, putting him on the roster in 2019.
The Rams claimed Hill off waivers in 2015 and he has remained with the team for the last three seasons, providing much-needed depth in the secondary. He originally went undrafted out of Oregon.
Hill has played in 40 total games for the Rams, starting 15 of them, and recording 90 total tackles, two interceptions, 11 passes defended and a fumble recovery. In 2018, he started seven games while Aqib Talib was out with an injury and had 34 tackles, both of his career interceptions and five passes defended.
In addition to the impact Hill has made on the defensive side of the ball, he has also been a key contributor on special teams.
Both Talib and Peters are in the last years of their respective contracts, so if the team decides not to re-sign either of them next offseason then Hill could potentially see his role expanded if he has a strong season in 2019.
