The Los Angeles Rams announced on Monday that they have signed former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver/punt returner Britain Covey to a one-year contract. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Covey originally went undrafted out of the University of Utah in 2022 and has spent the last three seasons with the Eagles, primarily as a punt returner. He had 68 returns for 771 yards across 38 games in three seasons with the Eagles. Covey also had 417 punt return yards in 2023, which led the NFL before a shoulder and a neck injury limited him to five games played last season.

The 28-year-old also returned 11 kickoffs for 236 yards and hauled in 11 receptions for 76 yards while with Philadelphia.

This signing will give the Rams some depth in their wide receiver room. They of course have Puka Nacua and Davante Adams as starters with Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington in the mix as well. After losing Cooper Kupp, Demarcus Robinson and others though, some depth is definitely necessary.

If Covey is able to make the Rams’ roster then it is reasonable to expect him to be in the mix to return punts along with Xavier Smith, Whittington, Atwell and some others.

That unit really struggled last season as the Rams returned the fewest punts in the NFL with 18 and their 161 yards in punt returns were the third-fewest.

Sean McVay gives update on Rams’ pursuit of Jalen Ramsey

One other move the Rams have been linked to this offseason is a reunion with cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Sean McVay discussed where things stand in their talks with the Miami Dolphins.

“There’s not too much of an update. He is a total stud and you look at, obviously he has continued to play at a really high level. He and I have kept in great touch even since we ended up trading him to Miami. Special competitor, great person, great father. And so there are a lot of layers when you’re talking about a player of his caliber – ‘All right, with regards to the contract, the compensation that they would be looking for in exchange for receiving a player of his magnitude.’ And so those conversations are ongoing, as I’m sure they are with multiple teams. And we’ll see, but we’re never going to shy away from opportunities to increase the competitiveness of our roster or add great players as long as it fits within the framework of everything that an acquisition like that would entail.”
