In a day that was filled with trades both up and down, the Los Angeles Rams wound up selecting Washington safety Taylor Rapp at No. 61, Memphis running back Darrell Henderson at No. 70, Michigan cornerback David Long and No. 79 and Oklahoma offensive tackle Bobby Evans at No. 97 during Day 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Rapp, who was the only second-round pick of the group, was someone that the Rams clearly had interest in after working him out earlier this month.
In three seasons at Washington, Rapp did not miss a single game. He recorded 168 total tackles to go along with seven interceptions, six passes defended, two forced fumbles and six sacks. Included in that was 58 tackles, two interceptions, four passes defended, three forced fumbles and four sacks in 13 games in 2018.
Henderson is a change-of-pace running back that will serve as a nice compliment to Todd Gurley. He rushed for an impressive 8.2 yards per carry in three seasons at Memphis.
He had an incredible 1,909 yards on 214 carries with 22 rushing touchdowns to go along with 19 receptions for 295 yards and three receiving touchdowns in 13 games this past season.
Long, who is a Pasadena, Calif. native that attended Loyola High School in Los Angeles, should add depth to a secondary that already includes Rapp, Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Eric Weddle and John Johnson III. He had 37 tackles, three interceptions and 12 passes defended in two seasons a Michigan.
The Rams lost two starters in the offensive line in Rodger Saffold and John Sullivan, so Evans should help replace them. He has the ability to play both guard and tackle and could compete for the starting left guard spot during training camp this year.
The draft concludes on Saturday afternoon and the Rams remaining picks include Nos. 162, 167, and 169 in the fifth round and No. 251 in the seventh round.
