The Los Angeles Rams selected Ohio State tight end Max Klare and Missouri offensive tackle Keagen Trost on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Rams took Klare with the No. 61 pick in the second round, and later took Trost with the No. 93 pick in the third round.
Through the first two days of the draft, Los Angeles has looked to shore up depth at multiple offensive spots. The Rams shocked the NFL by taking Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the No. 13 overall pick despite reports they were targeting an offensive skill position player.
The Klare selection seems at odd at first glance as Los Angeles seemed to be set at the tight end position with Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson, Terrance Ferguson and Davis Allen. However, Higbee, Parkinson and Allen are all free agents after the 2026 season, so from that perspective it makes sense.
On the other hand, Trost appears set to be Los Angeles’ next swing tackle that develops behind the scenes. With Rob Havenstein’s retirement, Warren McClendon Jr. is set to take over at right tackle and Trost can cross-train along the offensive line.
Earlier in the offseason, the Rams signaled to the rest of the league they were all-in on chasing after another Super Bowl and must feel like the roster is good enough to compete now despite opportunities to add cheap, young talent. All three of Simpson, Klare and Trost likely won’t see time in their rookie seasons but Los Angeles appears confident they can develop them for bigger roles down the line.
The Rams own four more picks on Day 3 and if the first two days are any indication then the team will be looking to supplement other positions across the roster with depth pieces. Historically, Los Angeles has done well to find pieces in the sixth and seventh rounds so perhaps they’ll find another gem.
Regardless of how the rest of the draft shakes out, the Rams look poised to make another deep postseason run. It remains to be seen if they should have gone after more win-now talent, but it’s hard to knock them too much considering their recent success.
Sean McVay told Matthew Stafford of Rams’ plans to draft Ty Simpson
Matthew Stafford is set to play for the Rams in 2026, but the team still went ahead and drafted his successor in Simpson. While this could have been received as a slight, head coach Sean McVay reportedly told Stafford of the team’s plan to draft Simpson the day of the draft.
