The Los Angeles Rams made a splash after agreeing to trade for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters. Needless to say, the availability of Peters came as a surprise to fans around the league.
The full details of the trade still have yet to be reported. However, the growing rift between Peters, head coach Andy Reid, and team owner Clark Hunt resulted in the Chiefs pulling the trigger on a deal that does not even include a first-round pick, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport:
“When those guys are not on board with keeping a guy and making sure he’s part of their future, it is best to send them elsewhere. And that is what the chiefs did for a package of picks not believed to be a first-rounder.”
The Chiefs are expected to get a package of other picks in exchange for Peters. While the deal seems like a steal for the Rams, it seems Kansas City was adamant about getting whatever they could in return for the two-time All-Pro.
Peters provides plenty of bang for his buck for the 2018 NFL season. He will be bringing his playmaking talents to Los Angeles for the mere price of just $1.74 million next year. While there have been some issues with his personality in the past, it is likely the Rams are hoping he can funnel that passion toward their efforts for a championship next season.
