The 2023 NFL offseason is shaping up to be a wild one, with several teams making changes at head coach. The Houston Texans are among them after parting ways with Lovie Smith in the wake of a disappointing 3-13-1 season.

The Texans are considered to be one of the most appealing job openings as they have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and loads of cap space to improve their roster.

To this point, the team has either completed or requested interviews with the likes of Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon and offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Texans are also hoping to interview Los Angeles Rams assistant head coach/tight ends coach Thomas Brown:

Brown has been part of the Rams coaching staff since 2020, when he became the running backs coach — a position he held for two seasons before being promoted to tight ends coach last year.

He additionally helped out the running backs group after Ra’Shaad Samples left the organization to coach the position at Arizona State.

Brown has emerged as a popular coaching candidate over the past two seasons as he interviewed with the Miami Dolphins for their head coach vacancy in 2022 and was a finalist to become the Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator under Kevin O’Connell.

Sean McVay allowing Rams staff to seek other positions as retirement rumors swirl

As Rams head coach Sean McVay contemplates retirement, he has reportedly given permission to his entire coaching staff to seek out other positions.

In addition to Brown potentially interviewing for the Texans head coach position, defensive coordinator Raheem Morris is set to speak with the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts about their respective job openings.
