Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson has been vocal about his desire to remain with the team for the long-haul. Unfortunately, it may not be in the works for the veteran Johnson.
The Rams have a number of pressing issues to deal with this offseason. At the moment, it does not appear as if bringing Johnson back as at the top of that list, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:
After franchising him two years in a row, corner Trumaine Johnson will not be back with the Rams, according to a league source. He leaves with $30 million in his pocket from the last two years.
Both sides had been reportedly trying to agree to terms on a new deal over the past two offseasons. However, it has been to no avail as Johnson was hit with the franchise tag in consecutive years.
The Rams now seem to be intent on placing this year’s franchise tag on either wide receiver Sammy Watkins or safety Lamarcus Joyner. Furthermore, they are still focused on locking up All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald to a long-term deal.
As a result, Johnson may have already spent his last days playing in Los Angeles. While he may not be the biggest name set to hit the market, Johnson has still done enough to carry a lucrative price tag in the offseason.
