Arguably the biggest story in the NFL right now is Matthew Stafford contract situation with the Los Angeles Rams as his future with the organization seems to be in serious doubt.

Stafford understandably wants a new contract where he is paid like one of the top quarterbacks in the league. And on the other hand, the Rams are understandably hesitant to give it to him considering he is 37-years-old and they have other needs to address.

That has led to a stalemate and the Rams giving permission to Stafford to speak to other teams to gauge what his next contract could look like.

Considering how many teams are in need of a quarterback, there naturally has been a lot of interest in Stafford. One of those teams is the Las Vegas Raiders and their minority owner Tom Brady reportedly met with Stafford in Montana, per Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports:

Sources: #Raiders minority owner Tom Brady recently hosted #Rams QB Matthew Stafford at his home in Montana, where they spent time together and went skiing. Brady has been actively trying to convince Stafford to join the Raiders, and discussions are ongoing.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network though, it was more of an informal meeting and not anything official:

#Raiders minority owner Tom Brady and #Rams QB Matthew Stafford ran into each other at a ski resort in Montana, sources say.

The meeting, unplanned, was not extensive or in-depth and did not include Brady “hosting” or “recruiting” Stafford, despite reports saying otherwise. pic.twitter.com/eUucyxzxsW

Regardless of how official the meeting was or not, it seems that Brady is interested in bringing Stafford to Las Vegas. Whether that interest is mutual remains to be seen, as the Raiders aren’t exactly Super Bowl contenders and play in one of the toughest divisions in the league.

Las Vegas is close to Los Angeles though so it would be an easy move for Stafford’s family, and they have enough cap space to likely give him the contract he is looking for, as well as the draft compensation the Rams would be looking for.

Sean McVay wants Rams to keep Matthew Stafford

Sean McVay recently let his thoughts be known on the situation, expressing a desire for the Rams to keep Matthew Stafford.

“But what’s hard about it is, is when you’re saying, OK, what is that timeline where we’ve got this absolute stud leading the way, and then what does that look like to be able to measure, all right, if in fact it’s hard to be able to come to a consensus in a regard, so what does it look like to bring you back?. What are the things that you can get in return to continuously build the team? There’s no right way. You could never put a value on how important he’s been to us, like, especially at a force multiplier position. And that’s why you have a lot of sleepless nights and what you do know is this: There’s no doubt in my mind who I want to be our quarterback.”
