Going into the offseason, something to keep an eye on for the Los Angeles Rams is their quarterback situation.

While Jared Goff may have the second-most wins in the NFL behind only Tom Brady over the last four years, his future with the Rams is currently uncertain.

Goff is coming off an up-and-down 2020 season, turning the ball over more than the organization had hoped. When he suffered a broken thumb late in the year, the Rams turned to backup John Wolford, and he even got the start in the Wild Card round against the Seattle Seahawks despite Goff being active.

Wolford, unfortunately, went down with a neck injury in that game, and Goff came in and played well to get the win before falling to the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round.

Goff’s massive four-year extension is about to kick in this upcoming season, but despite that, general manager Les Snead was recently noncommital about his future with the team.

It appears that the Rams will attempt to trade Goff this offseason, but according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, if they are unable to do that then there will be an open competition between him and Wolford in training camp:

“Here is my understanding of where it is for the Los Angeles Rams. If Jared Goff is not traded, if he remains on the team in 2021, expect an open quarterback competition in training camp. It will be John Wolford, who they like a lot, versus Jared Goff, their starter for the last several years.”

In 15 games for the Rams in 2020, Goff threw for 3,952 yards and 24 total touchdowns with 13 interceptions. His 38 turnovers over the last two seasons ranks second in the NFL, which is the main reason the Rams won’t commit to him as their franchise quarterback moving forward.

Another part of it is his lack of mobility, which also is why the organization is so enamored with Wolford, who proved that he can move around well and even run when he has to.

With so many tough decisions to make, not only at the quarterback position, it should be a very interesting offseason for the Rams as they look to get back to the Super Bowl in 2021.
