The Los Angeles Rams (3-1) are riding high following their 17-13 victory on the road against a talented Arizona Cardinals team (1-3) in Week 4. As always, the Rams still have a number of things to improve on if they want to be taken seriously as a contender in this league.

One of those areas has been the secondary, mainly the safety position. Los Angeles is extremely shallow at safety with only three listed on the depth chart and were apparently in search of some more experience in the form of veteran safety Donte Whitner. After catching wind of Pro Football Talk’s report regarding his current state of free agency, Whitner claims the Rams and the Carolina Panthers offered him a deal:

While it remains to be seen whether or not his statement was true, it is no secret the Rams are looking for more bodies in the secondary. In the past several weeks, Los Angeles promoted defensive back Isaiah Johnson to the 53-man roster before subsequently demoting him in favor of rookie safety Marqui Christian, who was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals.

It makes sense that the Rams would be interested in the hard-hitting, three-time Pro Bowl safety. However, it seems they instead decided to go with the much younger Christian.
