The Los Angeles Rams front office has been busy in recent weeks, inking some of the organization’s key members to long-term contract extensions.

Included in that is quarterback Jared Goff, tight end Tyler Higbee, head coach Sean McVay, and even general manager Les Snead secured an extension of his own. Goff’s was obviously the most notable as he secured the highest guaranteed contract in NFL history.

The Rams also locked up Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley and Brandin Cooks last year while giving Robert Woods a well-deserved raise for the 2019 season.

It appears the Rams are not done locking up their core for the future though. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, they have agreed to sign punter Johnny Hekker to a contract extension as well:

Rams and four-time All-Pro punter Johnny Hekker reached agreement on a 1-year, $4.25 million contract extension that included $3 million in guaranteed money, per source. Hekker now has five years and $18.75 million left on his deal with the Rams.

Hekker has spent all seven of his NFL seasons with the Rams after coming out of Oregon State in 2012. He has been named a Pro Bowler and All-Pro four times, consistently being one of the best punters in all of football.

He additionally has been a captain for the Rams the last handful of years, so not only is his play on the field strong, but he is also a leader in the locker room. So it makes sense that the organization wants to keep him around as long as possible.

Hekker was already under contract through the 2022 season, so this extension just adds another year onto that.
