Rams Rumors: Jake Peetz To Join Sean McVay’s Offensive Staff

With the loss of Kevin O’Connell and Wes Phillips to the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams will need to find replacements for the offensive coaching staff.

O’Connell and Phillips played key roles in leading the Rams to one of the best offensive units during the 2021 season, and finding the right personnel will be integral as they look to defend their Super Bowl title. McVay will remain the play-caller, but he has proven to be a collaborative coach willing to tweak things as the year progresses.

Los Angeles has already begun to reshape its staff with Liam Coen widely expected to be hired as offensive coordinator and now, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, it appears they have another hire in the works:

Like Coen, Jake Peetz has previous experience working alongside McVay and it seems he is keen on bringing in familiar faces. While McVay served as Washington’s offensive coordinator, Peetz was the offensive quality control coach but he will likely take on more responsibility in Los Angeles.

It will be interesting to see if Peetz absorbs some of the duties and tasks that Phillips was in charge of, especially considering the Rams are going to let Thomas Brown handle more responsibilities with the offense and team. With how McVay’s coaching tree has steadily sprouted, Peetz is in line for a great opportunity to advance his career and climb up the NFL coaching ranks especially if the Rams remain an elite offense.
