The Los Angeles Rams have had the highest scoring offense in the NFL this season and one of the biggest reasons is because of their air attack. Quarterback Matthew Stafford and the wide receiver duo of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams have been the engine behind this offense and have been unstoppable all season long.
Unfortunately, Adams suffered a hamstring injury in the Rams’ victory over the Detroit Lions and the wide receiver was then inactive for their game against the Seattle Seahawks. With the Rams in a tight battle for the NFC West crown as well as the top seed in the conference, many are hoping Adams will be back on the field for the team’s final two regular season games, but things might be trending the other way.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Rams are considering shutting down Adams for the remainder of the regular season in order to ensure the wide receiver is 100% healthy for the playoffs:
The Rams very well could shut down Davante Adams (hamstring) for the final two regular-season games. Coach Sean McVay already declared Adams doubtful for Monday night vs. Atlanta , and a team source told me that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Adams miss Week 18 vs. Arizona, another game the Rams can win without their star receiver. The goal is to ensure Adams is 100 percent for the first week of the playoffs. Technically, he’s week-to-week with an injury that hampered him weeks before he aggravated it vs. Detroit on Dec. 14.
The Rams offense certainly didn’t struggle without Adams against the Seahawks, putting up 37 points against one of the best defenses in the NFL. With the Rams already clinching a playoff spot, and their final two games coming against the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals, two very beatable teams, the idea of resting Adams makes sense.
The most important thing for the Rams is to be as healthy as possible for the playoffs and Adams is an extremely important piece to this offense. The veteran leads the NFL with 14 receiving touchdowns while totaling 60 receptions for 789 yards this season.
Rams’ Roger McCreary returns to practice; Quentin Lake to be available for playoffs
The Rams also look to be getting healthy on the defensive side of the ball as cornerback Roger McCreary returned to practice this week after being on IR with a groin injury and could suit up in Week 17. Additionally, safety and team captain Quentin Lake, who has been on IR since Week 11, will have his return clock started with hopes of him being ready for the playoffs.
