Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is widely regarded as one of the best offensive minds in the NFL today and for good reason.

McVay established his positive reputation on offense behind his play-action-heavy scheme his first year in Los Angeles, but has since evolved his scheme to fit his personnel. Recently, McVay’s leaned more on his running game than ever before, dialing up plays to run in-between the tackles with Kyren Williams.

Under McVay, quarterbacks like Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford have flourished in his system. Baker Mayfield, who spent less than half a season McVay during his short stint in Los Angeles, revitalized his career and is starring for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It feels like any offensive player that gets to work under McVay vastly elevates their game, so a player like Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson might look at the situation with the Rams as their best bet to stick in the NFL, via Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano of ESPN:

One intriguing option is Anthony Richardson Sr ., who is stuck behind Daniel Jones in Indianapolis. My sense is Richardson would be open to joining a premier playcaller such as Sean McVay as a developmental player so he can reset for 2026.

Indianapolis took a gamble on Richardson with the fourth pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, betting on his athleticism and huge arm. Richardson was more inexperienced than most quarterbacks taken that high in the draft, and so far he’s looked like a prospect that needs more time developing.

Los Angeles beat Indianapolis just this past Sunday in Week 3, with Richardson forced to watch from the bench as Daniel Jones made his third start of the year. Head coach Shane Steichen’s offense looks much better with Jones under center, so it’s hard to imagine that Richardson will get a chance to reclaim his job back unless there’s an injury.

As of now, the Rams don’t have a successor to Stafford but it’s hard to imagine general manager Les Snead and McVay spending real draft capital to trade for Richardson. However, if he somehow hits the open market then he would be a worthy add.

Davante Adams describes early impressions of Sean McVay

Davante Adams signed with the Rams in free agency largely in part due to Sean McVay’s recruitment. During his first few days of OTAs and training camp, Adams described his early impressions of McVay.
