Rams Rumors: Some Coaches Believe Jared Goff Should Be Starter

The Los Angeles Rams were embarrassed in their season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, being shut out 28-0. Quarterback Case Keenum did not have a good showing, throwing for only 130 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions while averaging an abysmal 3.7 yards per attempt.

This has led to calls for first overall pick Jared Goff to assume the starting role. Speaking after the game, head coach Jeff Fisher said that nothing will change at the quarterback position according to Lakisha Jackson of NFL Network:

However, according to Bleacher Reports’s Jason Cole, there are some coaches who believe Goff should be the starter:

“There are coaches on staff who feel that quarterback Jared Goff may give the team a better chance. Keenum’s overall lack of ability was exposed on Monday night as he’s too small and has too low a release. The Rams will roll with Keenum for now, but the future is far from set.”

Keenum completely underwhelmed on Monday night, but he will have a chance to make it up in the Rams’ home opener against the Seattle Seahawks. If he has a repeat performance, however, the Los Angeles fans will definitely let him hear it and the calls for Goff will grow.

The Rams came into the season with playoff aspirations and it would be foolish to write those off after only one week. But if the team clearly isn’t headed in that direction, putting in Goff and allowing him to grow with his young team would be the best move.

Goff may have started the season as an inactive, but it might not be long before he is under center.
