After leading the Los Angeles Rams to a victory in Super Bowl LVI, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay’s future on the sidelines appeared murky for a moment when he did not originally commit to returning for the 2022 season.

McVay said he would see when asked about coming back for another season, but seemingly put any doubts to bed at the Rams championship parade when he ignited chants of “run it back”. McVay was speaking to Aaron Donald, who was considering his own retirement, but the statement applied as much to McVay himself.

Recent reports have stated that McVay is focused on defending Los Angeles’ title but it sounds like he would have an excellent option to pivot to because according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Amazon was prepared to offer him a lucrative deal to work Thursday Night Football:

The New York Post, citing sources, reported Friday that McVay was set to meet with Amazon next week, with Amazon possibly willing to offer as much as five years and $100 million. Amazon will stream “Thursday Night Football” exclusively on Prime Video starting this fall.

Getting someone like McVay to call games and provide analysis would have been a great option for TNF and no one would have blamed him for taking the reported offer. Former players and coaches like Troy Aikman and Jon Gruden have made comfortable livings doing television and McVay would be a natural in such a role.

Fortunately for the Rams and their fans, McVay sounds like he is here to stay for the foreseeable future as it was announced that he is returning to defend the title. The next question will be whether or not he and L.A. agree to a long-term extension.

A head coaching extension will likely not come close to Amazon’s deal, but the Rams would be wise to shell out for their championship head coach.
