The entire country has been mourning the death of George Floyd is recent days after the African-American was murdered by a Minnesota police officer due to excessive and unlawful force.

While sports were on the verge of returning after a long layoff due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the focus amongst athletes and the sports world has instead shifted to the death of Floyd and police brutality, which has been an issue in the country for generations.

The Los Angeles Rams have been leaders in the local community since moving back to the West Coast, whether it be during the wildfires and bar shooting in 2018 when they joined the “California Strong” initiative that Jared Goff helped create, or coronavirus relief funds in recent months.

Because of that, it is not surprising to see them again trying to help out in the community during this difficult time. The Rams released the following statement about their commitment to fighting racial injustice along with their fellow L.A. citizens:

Goff also shared a similar statement on social media, as have many other Rams players in the last few days.

While the acts of that police officer were tragic and heartbreaking, it is good to see everyone coming together to fight for what is right.

Hopefully, the latest protests will spark change in the country so that black men and women do not have to fear for their lives when leaving their homes. The Rams have not yet announced any specific initiatives they will be taking part it, although it would not be surprising to see them follow up with that in the coming days.
