Rams Receive Five Compensatory Picks For 2024 NFL Draft

The NFL announced there would be 34 compensatory picks in the 2024 NFL Draft and the Los Angeles Rams were awarded five of them.

The San Francisco 49ers and the Rams were each were given five compensatory picks and were also the only teams to receive a special compensatory third round pick because of the league’s minority hiring initiative. Los Angeles saw former defensive coordinator Raheem Morris leave to take the head coaching job with the Atlanta Falcons.

Aside from the special compensatory pick in the third round, the Rams were also awarded three sixth round picks and one seventh round pick. L.A. is no stranger to picking players on Day 3 of the draft because of their all-in team-building strategy so they’ll put those selections to good use.

This will be the first year since 2016 that the Rams own their own first round pick, though general manager Les Snead hasn’t ruled out the possibility of trading back or using it in a trade for a player. Los Angeles has the cap space and draft capital to be aggressive this offseason and there are a number of directions they could go in.

Although last year’s roster overachieved, there are glaring holes the team needs to address. Defensively, the Rams desperately need another edge rusher as well as defensive backs.

Meanwhile, L.A. could use more offensive line depth even after re-signing Kevin Dotson to a three-year extension. Tight end is another spot that could use more talent especially because of Tyler Higbee’s ACL injury that he suffered in the playoffs.

Fortunately for the Rams, this year’s draft is filled with talented defensive backs and offensive linemen so they should be able to add some impact players. Most mock drafts have the team going that route, though the wide receiver prospects are just as tantalizing.

Regardless of what happens come the draft, there’s no doubt that the Rams are well-positioned to make another postseason run with the pieces they have on hand. It’ll be exciting to see who they end up coming away with once the draft concludes.
