The Los Angeles Rams agreed to terms with running back Ronnie Rivers on a one-year contract for the 2025 season.

The 26-year-old was a restricted free agent but the team opted not to tender him a contract, which would’ve cost $3.3 million. The terms of Rivers’ new deal haven’t been disclosed, but he will likely earn less than that amount in 2025.

Rivers appeared in all 17 games with the Rams last year, carrying the ball 22 times for 99 yards and no touchdowns. He also caught five passes for 34 receiving yards.

Rivers played in only 7% of the Rams’ offensive snaps, but has been a consistent contributor on special teams over the last two years. Rivers opened the 2024 season as the No. 2 running back on the Rams’ depth chart. However, he was eventually overtaken by rookie Blake Corum as the main backup to Kyren Williams.

Rivers originally signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Fresno State in 2022. In three seasons with the team, he has totaled 249 rushing yards, 15 catches and 85 receiving yards across 34 games (two starts).

With Rivers back in the fold, the Rams will return all three of their running backs for the 2025 season. Williams should continue being the workhorse, but Corum could easily get more playing time if he is able to stay healthy.

As for Rivers, he will likely continue serving as the team’s No. 3 running back but should have an important role on special teams.

Davante Adams appreciates Rams’ aggressive recruitment

The Rams’ biggest free agency signing to this point has been All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, who joined the team on a two-year contract earlier this month.

Adams recently discussed the process and said he knew right away that the Rams were the best fit for him.

“There were a lot of different things that already appealed and honestly coming into it and knowing that this may be a thing that I would be a free agent is already something that was on my radar,” Adams said. “After speaking with a couple of players, Sean, and a couple of the other personnel, it was clear that this was where I needed to be. [The Rams were] definitely the most eager organization to reach out, whether it was the understanding of contracts or understanding of where I am in my game.

“Obviously having an opportunity to play with [QB] Matthew [Stafford] is a heck of an opportunity. I can’t wait to get started with that and the rest of the team too. Being able to be with a contender at this point in my career is something I’ve been waiting for a while now. I’ve been putting the work in to make it happen, but now we got it. It’s exciting.”
